Environmental Committee

Role of the Committee

The purpose and responsibility of the Environmental Committee is to:

  • review all matters referred to it by the City Council on issues related to landscaping, greening, sustainability, and natural resources
  • conduct research and review best practices related to the environment
  • support community engagement, education, and environmental programming
  • volunteer at events and support improvement projects that improve the city's natural resources

Overview

  • Normal meeting day/time: Meetings are the first Wednesday of each month at 6pm.
  • Expected time commitment: Typically meetings last 1-2 hours. Less than 1 hour of prep per meeting.
  • Length of Appointment: 3 years
  • Committee Seats Available: 3
  • Priority by Ward: Equal ward representation is preferred when feasible.

Environmental Committee was recently involved in the following projects/items:

  • Supported several community events, providing educational materials and handouts to residents and visitors
  • Reviewed changes to the city's tree and landscaping ordinances
  • Supported the development of a new parks system plan
  • Reviewed designs for Albert Park, Officer Scott Memorial, and 150 Thompson Park
